Thursday, April 26th, 2007

As the sun rises in the morning, the sky is brilliant with hues of lavender and crimson. At noon, the sky is a glowing light blue, offering opportunities to photograph your subject against a clean background. New photo gallery - Indian Classical Dance - Bharatanatyam

Wednesday, April 25th, 2007

Bharatanatyam (also Bharat Natyam) is a classical dance form originating in Southern India. Originating in ancient times, it involves a series of physically challenging postures and movements mimicking heavenly sculptures. I was asked to photograph the debut (Arangetram) performance of this high-speed and endurance testing dance by Shruti Krishnan, a young south Indian girl who had been training for many years. She danced beautifully and with amazing precision. View the Bharatanatyam gallery.

Leica M8 on trial!

Tuesday, March 27th, 2007

I have in my hot little hands the coveted Leica M8 digital rangefinder with 35mm/1.4 Summilux lens. It’s on loan from L&P digital photographic in Artarmon. I’ve taken some shots this morning and at lunch, and I’m quite impressed so far. I’m shooting around Crows Nest’s back streets tonight and will post up a gallery and a review in the next few days.

Edit 29/03/2007: update! I managed to get my hands on the Leica M8 for a day. Read my Leica M8 review along with lots of high-res sample photos.

New photo gallery: Carla and Chris’s Wedding

Friday, March 23rd, 2007

Last weekend I photographed the wedding of Carla and Chris Vandenheuvel. The wedding was at Santa Sabina College in Burwood, Sydney, and the following reception was at Drummoyne Sailing Club. It was a beautiful sunny day and there was a real sense of togetherness of friends and family. The shots came out great and I received great feedback from both sides of the family as well as many of the people who attended! Browse through some of the photos from the day.

New quick photography tip: Look for patterns

Friday, March 9th, 2007

A good photographer will find order amongst chaos. In something as complex as a jungle or crowd, they look out for patterns and symmetry in colour, shapes and patterns. When translated to a photograph, this results in a visually striking image that causes you to look twice. Read more on this digital photography tip.
